Virginia Mission Trip
August 6, 2009
In July, my family and I had the wonderful opportunity to go on a life changing mission trip with our church, Washington Baptist, to Jonesville, VA. Twenty adults and seventeen teenagers and children were able to make the trip. Jonesville is a small, sleepy little town with approximately 700 residents. Jonesville is not an affluent part of Virginia, and some of the residents are in financial crisis after having been laid off from the coal mine that has closed down. Driving through this town will make you feel like you have stepped back into the 1960’s.
Camp Providence
July 31, 2009
My family and I just recently went on a mission trip. However, instead of journeying to a foreign country, our mission work took us to Camp Providence in Anderson, SC on Lake Hartwell. Originally founded by Archie Morgan, Camp Providence is an outreach ministry formally known as Crisis Ministries. Camp Providence takes place at the Old Providence United Methodist Church located directly on Lake Hartwell. The church is well over a hundred years old, and the facilities are kept in very good condition.

During the month of July, Eastern’s Blue Jean Friday donations were allotted towards the Boys Home of the South. The Boys Home of the South is a non-profit, non-denominational residential group home dedicated to the care, education, and nurturing of troubled boys. Their mission is simple. Mend boys. Build men. Presently, fifty boys are residing in this home.
