Charity Golf Tournament
July 23, 2009
On Saturday July 11th, Rich Carrington, Dustin Sawyer, and I took part in a Charity Golf Tournament for Josh Worley. Josh is the UPS Driver for Branch 1 - Greenville,SC. Josh was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. Josh’s coworker Jonathan O’Sullivan and his wife Heather, with the help of UPS, sprang into action. Within two weeks, the team organized a golf tournament that raised $19,100 through registration, tee shirts, wristbands, 50/50, and a silent auction. In addition to money raised, Eastern made a generous donation through the Eastern Cares Program for the Worley Family.
Giving in Greenville, SC
July 20, 2009
Each month the Greenville Branch has been supporting a different organization in the community. We asked associates in Branch 1 - Greenville, SC to give us ideas about what charity they would like to help out, and then picked a different charity for each month. We wanted everyone to be involved and that was a great way to kick off the BR1 Eastern Cares initiative.
March of Dimes ... for Community and Country
May 27, 2009
Eastern had the great privilege to participate once again in this year’s March of Dimes national “March for Babies” campaign. Money raised through “America’s favorite walking event” is used to fund research for answers to serious problems that threaten newborns, as well as programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives—bringing comfort and information to families of babies who are born too soon or sick.
Special Olympics
May 22, 2009
Ahough I have a sister who once competed in the Virginia Special Olympics, I had never participated either as a spectator or a helper. On April 15, 2009, Alyn Judkins, Benjy Brown, and I were volunteers working with Alyn's son, Peyton, who was a participant in the Special Olympics. Peyton was participating along with many other students from his school Hidden Treasures.Page 16 of 19
